Record-Breaking Season!

Record-Breaking Season! NCAFA Flag Football Soars with 2,000 Participants, New Clubs, and Unforgettable Championships!

Another successful summer of NCAFA Flag is in the books. Our 2023 season saw continued growth with nearly 2,000 participants, 141 teams, 2 new clubs, and nearly 20 new officials.

NCAFA Flag in Ottawa has become a leader in non-contact football and we’re extremely proud of all the work put in by our volunteers, coaches, players, referees and everyone else involved in our growing game!

Every team was able to host flag games this season, something we haven’t seen in years past, adding to the growth and community-driven efforts put together by each club who participates in our Flag season. The 2 new clubs, Gatineau & Kemptville, added more players, and fresh faces that were able to take part in our league in the surrounding area of Ottawa.

Championship Weekend saw one of the biggest community outreach efforts put forward by NCAFA in recent memory. The Purolator Tackle Hunger Drive was in full effect again at Championship Weekend and the NCAFA community showed up & showed out donating tons of non-perishable food items to the Ottawa Food Banks. Thank you to everyone who participated! We were also elated to welcome NFL Canada's Forward Pass Initiatives to Ottawa for our Flag Championships and our community had a great time with the activities and booths setup all day long! Thank you to NFL Canada for making the trip to the nation's capital.

Unfortunately, due to the air quality, the Girls Championship had to be canceled and will not be postponed. But a huge congratulations is in order to all of the girls who played this summer, we saw numbers rise from last season & the games were exciting to watch. We look forward to having our girls championship weekend next summer!

All of this wouldn’t be possible without the help, and leadership of Rod Moors, Vice President of NCAFA Flag. Without Rod, Flag Football doesn’t happen in this city. Rod takes pride in ensuring the best possible experience for everyone who participates in our flag season and we would like to give a huge thank you to him for all the great work he puts in every summer. Thank you Rod!

We would also like to shout out our flag coaches who do a phenomenal job of bringing our kids up, not tearing them down. Their inclusivity & leadership has taught thousands of players basic football skills, to go with important life skills. Thank you Coaches! We would also be nothing without the thankless work of our volunteers, making sure all players are hydrated, energized, and have a positive attitude during our hot summer games, thank you for all you do.

Lastly, without the addition of the new officials who made the jump to NCAFA this year, along with our dedicated experienced officials, everything we do would simply not be possible. Allowing & enabling countless kids the opportunity to play football in our league is the reason we’re all able to do what we do. THANK YOU!!!

NCAFA looks forward to next summer & continuing to build off the growth we saw in 2023. We’re extremely proud of the community-driven flag league we’re able to put on each and every summer for ALL kids in Ottawa. Thank you to everyone who made NCAFA Flag possible this year. See you next summer!
