NCAFA is a youth football league built on the principles of;
It is, however, nice when the league is able to instil a love for the game at an early age that helps propel players into the pro levels. This past week, these once NCAFA players were drafted into the NFL and CFL.
Cowan, a 6-foot, 228-pound Linebacker, was a Round 6, 47th overall pick for Ottawa’s RNation. He played for the Golden Hawks at Wilfrid Laurier University — last season he had a total of 28.5 tackles in eight games. He recently posted a 7-second three-cone drill at 229 pounds at the Ontario Regional Combine testing.
Previous to this, Brad played six seasons with the Bel-Air Norsemen leaving the Bell Warriors where he started his football career in 2010 as a Mosquito — advancing up to PeeWee and Bantam teams with the club.
He played football for a community team — the Canterbury Mustangs — then the St. Patrick’s High School Irish, where he was converted from running back to linebacker and defensive lineman. He played against kids three and four years older. He later played for the Cumberland Panthers.
Any team that gets Neville Gallimore, they’re not only going to get a good football player, they’re going to get a very good person who is going to be influential in the community. That’s just the way we were brought up.
Coming from Ohio, Michael Hoecht, captured the nickname of ‘Ohio’ or ‘Ohio Mike’ – there were many Mikes on the team – when he played for the Bell Warriors Football Club. He lived in Stittsville, attended South Carleton High School and was a Bantam in 2012. He has definitely come a long way since then.
Playing for the Warriors for only one season, the impression he left behind was lasting for both his teammates and coaches. He was strong, immensely driven, pleasant, polite, always smiling, humble, coachable, very athletic and he loved playing sports – especially football. He was the kind of player that was always looking for and actually embraced feedback.
The Bombers like to stockpile their special teams with athletic Canadian linebackers and Rodger will be added to a crew that already features Shayne Gauthier, Jesse Briggs, Thomas Miles and Brandon Calver. Briggs is 30, Gauthier is 28 while Miles and Calver are 27. That provides an opportunity for younger blood.
Let us know and we will add them to the list!
